Versions
How GSERP is numbered, what each kind of change may do, and how older versions stay published.
1 Versions so far
| Version | Date | What it is | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| GSERP 0.2, checker 0.2.0 | Published on gserp.co, in effect the same day. Current. AI training is the site owner's choice. | The standard, changelog | |
| GSERP 0.1, checker 0.1.1 | Published on gserp.co. Replaced by GSERP 0.2 the same day, and kept unchanged. | GSERP 0.1 | |
| Checker 0.1.1 | Pages kept out of search, app paths, every WebPage subtype. | Changelog | |
| Checker 0.1 | First version. Not published on its own. | Changelog |
2 Two numbers
The standard has a version of two numbers, such as GSERP 0.2. The checker that applies it has a version of three, such as checker 0.2.0, and its first two numbers are always the standard's. A version is written in full as GSERP 0.2 (checker 0.2.0)
, and every verification page on swomi.ai will name it that way.
3 What each kind of change may do
| Change | Example | What it may do |
|---|---|---|
| Patch | 0.1 to 0.1.1 | Correct how a criterion is tested, or accept more ways of meeting it. It adds no requirement that a site meeting the version would fail. The text of the standard is updated with it, and the changelog says exactly what changed. |
| Minor | 0.1 to 0.2 | Add, change or remove criteria. Published here in full, with the date it takes effect, before any check uses it. |
| 1.0 | 0.x to 1.0 | The first stable version. It carries the mark's final name. |
4 Before version 1.0
Versions before 1.0 are published in full and their tests are real, but criteria can change between them more freely than they will after 1.0. The mark's final name will be published with version 1.0. Until then this site calls it the GSERP mark.
5 Older versions stay published
The page The standard always shows the current version. When a new version is published, the version it replaces is kept, unchanged, at its own address on this site, https://gserp.co/versions/<number>/, and this page links it. Nothing is removed: a mark tested against an older version can always be read against the text it was tested against. GSERP 0.1 is kept this way.
6 Criterion ids
An id, such as ROBOTS-3, names one requirement for good. A criterion that changes keeps its id, and the changelog says what changed. A criterion that is removed retires its id, which is never used again for anything else. Each id is also the anchor of its criterion on the page, such as /standard/#robots-3.
7 How a new version is announced
On this page, in the table above, with the date it was published and the date it takes effect for checks and re-checks; and in the changelog. Holders of the mark will also be told directly. The notice period between publication and effect will be set before the first mark is granted.
